The Hatzgang, made of Roy, Ross, and Robert, is the recurring antagonistic group in the Spooky Month series, debuting in Spooky Month 2 - The Stars.
They are a trio of hat-wearing teenagers that frequently run into Skid and Pump. While Ross and Robert are typically fine, Roy serves as a constant bully and tormentor of the duo and general nuisance to the town. The three often get comeuppance in some way, shape, or form, be it deserved or not.
Biography[]
Spooky Month 2 - The Stars[]
The Hatzgang first appear after Skid and Pump are walking away from Mr. Wonder's house, having just scared him. They block Skid and Pump on the sidewalk, and Roy calls them "losers" before the trio spits on them, steps on their toes, and then bonks then on the head. When Pump says it's the 'spooky month,' Ross and Robert become excited and start miming the Spooky Dance, while Roy tells them that there's a "spooky party" going on in a house on the hill, which can be seen in the distance. Skid and Pump then excitedly run off, which causes Roy to remark to Ross and Robert "that's where [his] uncle takes [him]," which causes both of them to take an uncomfortable step away.
Not long after, the Hatzgang are seen in the middle of a conversation about the immorality of Roy's uncle, a concept he doesn't seem to understand. They are interrupted by Skid and Pump, now with the Eyes of the Universe in tow. The Eyes hypnotizes them, which Skid and Pump misinterpret as them "having fun." Skid, Pump, and the Eyes then leave to get candy.
Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest[]
Skid and Pump run into the Hatzgang outside of Eden Hospital, where Roy acts much the same as he did before, but Ross and Robert are both shivering in fear. The two remind Roy about this, which he had shrugged off as a dream. Once Skid and Pump offer to let him meet it again, he gets enraged and begins to yell at them. Ross tries to calm him down, which only makes him angrier. He stops yelling after noticing the Happy Fella doll they were carrying with them, and grins evilly. While the camera cuts away, he presumably beats them up and ruins the doll, since Skid and Pump are next seen stuffed inside the box and wearing the doll's outfit, respectively.
Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles[]
The Hatzgang are first seen in CandyClub, where they are being given candy by Kevin. Once they turn around to leave, he spots a bunch of stolen candy stuffed into Roy's shirt, which he calls them out on. He throws a piece of candy at them to try and stop them, but it hits someone walking into the store instead and the trio get away.
The Hatzgang are seen again after Kevin throws the possessed Happy Fella doll into CandyClub's back alley, where they snatch it while it is walking up to a cat. The three question why it is alive for a short time, before Skid and Pump show up, having been directed to the alley by Kevin. They ask for it back, and while Ross and Robert agree, Roy forces them to bargain for it. The Happy Fella pipes up during the discussion, confusing Roy, but he ultimately tells Skid and Pump to give him their clothes. Ross, Robert, and the Happy Fella briefly yell at Roy for that, but he clarifies he meant their winter sweaters. The duo reluctantly gives him their sweaters, and then leave with the Happy Fella in tow.
Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats[]
The trio are seen trick-or-treating for the first time, with Ross and Robert in-costume walking around town in order to collect candy for Robert's little sister. The two tell Roy that things would be easier if he had brought a costume too, but Roy says that his parents don't want him to hang out with them. Roy then steals pieces from some other kids' costumes, dressing himself up as a "rapper."
Skid and Pump then walk past, carrying a giant box of candy they had gotten earlier. Roy attempts to steal some from them, but Ross drags him away since he didn't bring a costume. Robert then politely asks for some for the Hatzgang and his sister, a request that Skid and Pump oblige. Immediately after, the Hatzgang are ambushed by Bob Velseb, who had been following Skid and Pump. The three offer them their candy in exchange for their lives, which he takes and walks off with.
Richard and Carmen then drive up in their limousine and berate Roy in from of Ross and Robert for wearing an "inelegant" costume and for hanging out with "plebeians." After getting in the car, Roy opens a window to say bye to his friends. He throws them a giant bag of candy that was in the car, saying that he hopes it helps them before he and his family drive off.
Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows[]
The Hatzgang are encountered by Skid and Pump after they leave Ignacio's house, where Ross and Robert are consoling Roy and reassuring them that they are here for him when he's in need. The duo run up from behind the Hatzgang and poke Roy, tagging him and saying he's it. This enrages him and causes him to throw his drink on the ground and lunge at Skid and Pump, but Ross and Robet grab him before he can do any damage. Skid and Pump then leave.
Later, the Hatzgang are spotted by Skid and Pump while they are walking with Father Gregor, who had just finished telling them to be kind to everyone, regardless of how they treat you. After Mayor Evermore pulls up to have a discussion with the priest, Skid and Pump go to apologize to the Hatzgang for what they had done earlier. Ross and Robert are again interrupted in the middle of consoling Roy, who threatens to punch Skid and Pump before they can explain what they're doing. Ross and Robet hold him back, but after Pump explains what they're doing they let go of him to let the duo know that they haven't done anything wrong. After a brief conversation where Ross and Robert are confused by Skid and Pump's sudden liking of Roy, he beats up Skid and Pump to "prove" to the others that he didn't do anything to them. Ross and Robert try and get Roy to apologize, but Skid and Pump return to Father Gregor before they can coax one out of him. Ross then punches Roy on the arm.
Near the end of the episode, after Moloch escaped Eden Hospital, he possesses Roy in an attempt to hide from Father Gregor. This problem is quickly fixed, and the demon, the priest, and Skid and Pump run away while Ross and Robert pat Roy on the back.
Individual Profiles[]
Roy[]
The de-facto leader of the trio, and the only one who is actively malicious towards Skid and Pump. He is the youngest and shortest member of the Hatzgang. He is short and round, with curly reddish-brown hair (Very similar to his mother) and dark lines around his eyes that resemble eyelashes. He wears a blue baseball cap, and a orange-brown sweater with several pale yellow horizontal stripes.
Roy comes from a wealthy family who don't approve of him hanging out with Ross and Robert, considering them to be "plebeians." He is also implied to have been sexually assaulted by his uncle at least once in the past.
Ross[]
The oldest of the trio, and the most laid-back and chill. Ross is the middle-most in height, and wears a dark grey beanie. He has black hair that ends in points from behind his head and wears a blue shirt and navy-blue pants. His mouth is usually V-shaped, a distinct characteristic given to him by his mother. Ross is usually quiet and reserved, and keeps his hands stuffed in his pockets at almost all times.
Robert[]
The tallest of the trio, and the most excitable and loud. Robert is the tallest member of the Hatzgang, and wears a blue baseball cap that faces backwards. He has fluffy blonde hair, a mole beneath his right eye, and heavy dark lines under his eyes. He wears a bluish-green sweater and blue pants, and seems to be rather skinny. Robert is often seen with a comically oversized smile, indicative of his happy-go-lucky nature. He has said "Really freakin' cool" and "That's so rad" before sort of as catchphrases.
Trivia[]
- The Hatzgang's designs may be based off the Too-Tall Gang from the Berenstain Bears.
- Despite being depicted as a trio of bullies, Ross and Robert are usually rather polite and object to Roy's actions. The only time they have been seen actually bullying Skid and Pump was during their first appearance in Spooky Month 2. This could either be because they matured afterwards, or because they were afraid that Skid and Pump were going to unleash the Eyes of the Universe onto them again.
- During their free time, the Hatzgang enjoys playing videogames and watching TV and/or movies.
- None of the Hatzgang members draw.
- Ross and Robert playfully tease Roy for being the shortest in the group, but they still respect him.
- The Hatzgang has an immature sense of humor, stated by Pelo in a Q&A. [1]
