Skid's father is the presumably deceased husband of Lila and the father of Skid. [1] He makes minor appearances in most episodes via background photos and portraits, though we have seen glimpses of other pictures via Sr Pelo's Twitter.
In all known photos, his face is either ripped off or drawn over. It is implied he is the one who rules over the mysterious and evil Cult that plague the town, though he has presumably mysteriously passed away under unnamed circumstances, [2] or potentially faked his own death. Many of his belongings can be seen in Lila's attic, among many cult objects. It's also indicated that Lila was aware of his activities within the Cult and heavily disapproved if outright resented him for it, given she has no pictures throughout the their house of him, and the family portrait that's in the attic has his face ripped off, showing that she doesn't think fondly of him since his passing.
Little is known about him for now other than the fact he used to be a woodcarver before his presumed demise. His personality has yet to be determined but if we're following along with how cult leaders typically act in real life, it'd be safe to assume he would be extremely sadistic. It is all these sinister implications and facts that possibly paint him as the series' posthumous overarching antagonist, or it’s main one if he turns out to be alive.
Appearances[]
He is usually seen in his dark grey suit and his magenta sweater, though he has made appearance in multiple other outfits. Another common one would be his all black suit. He has also made appearance in his cultist robes, his green shirt, his woodcarver outfit and his grey suit.
It's spooky month - Skid’s Father could be see in the background as a cropped out portrait with Lila. He is also seen, while the kids are running down the stairs, as a skull and a hand with his ring on it.
Spooky Month 2: The Stars - We can see portraits of him when Skid and Pump ran into the mansion, seemingly cropped out so we can't see his face.
Spooky Month: Unwanted Guest - We can see family portraits in the attic while Dexter was doing his job. The pictures seem to have the Father's face ripped off from the photos.
Spooky Month: Deadly Smiles - Early on in the episode, we can see a portrait of Skid's Father as a woodcarver. The picture itself seems to be arranged poorly since it is not placed straight. Later on, we can see a picture of Skid's Father and Lila in both a suit and a dress respectfully. It appears that the Father's side of the portrait was torn off.
Spooky Month: Tender Treats - During Bob's chase after Lila, we can once again see those same portraits in the same bookshelf shown previously in Unwanted Guest.
Spooky Month: Hollow Sorrows - We can see the classic portraits on the shelf along side the portait of Skid's Father and Lila still remaining in the attic. We can also see a picture of Skid's Father with Ignacio in Ignacio's home alongside a new picture of him with Skid in the early beginning.
Spooky Short - Kevin's Dream Job - When Kevin asks Pump why Skid is crying to which he replies that his father died, later at the end he appears in silhouette where Skid introduces him to Kevin and asks him to buy him a candy bar. Later they leave together.
Relations[]
Lila[]
His relationship with Lila is currently vague, she has ripped off his face from every single portrait in her home, as well as her nor Skid ever talking about him indicates they either had a a strained and unpleasant marriage or she flat out despised him, even following his death, likely due to his involvement with the Cult or how he viewed Skid. Pelo has even recently confirmed that he didn't actually love Lila during their marriage, likely only seeing her as a tool to have a child with.
Skid[]
His relations with his own son are also left to be determined, the closest we could presume was he was decently loving if Skid was mourning over his grave. Furthermore, when Skid mistakenly believes Lila is throwing away his dad's stuff, he gets sad showing that he deeply misses him. Skid's father's love for him is possibly implied by the posthumus message "You are everything" scrawled around the attic and other spots throughout the series, albeit it's called into question the intention behind this mantra, as the Cult also repeats the mantra of "obtaining everything that is more and more that is everything" with sinister syntax, meaning that Skid's Father had ulterior intentions for his son.
The Eyes of the Universe[]
His relationship with Eyes remains vague, though it is confirmed they know eachother, or he might have outright served/followed/worshiped the entity, given his affiliation to the Cult.
Cultists[]
We have no marked dynamics between him and his cultists, though we can assume none would be in a positive light if we went based off of actual cults and how they neglect their followers.
Cult[]
There is a possibility The Cult he runs is religious and/or a doomsday cult. One of the main clues would be how the cult presents itself in robes that may be simplified versions of religious clothing, the most notable being Skid's Father's fit baring a striking resemblance to one of a Priest or a Pope (depending on the outfit, it can vary.)
The Doomsday Cult assumption comes from one of Sr Pelo's Patreon tiers, named; Aeternum (Eternal in Latin.) It's description reads as follows: "Your mind can not grasp what is beyond sight of each star, for your weak existence is far from the desire of one more night before the eternal gaze of the blinding darkness" . "One more night before the eternal gaze of the blinding darkness could be reference to how there are only 10 episodes and how they only have limited time before the "blinding darkness" looms over.
The "cause" for this cult, so far, is unknown but it'd be safe to assume that being granted eternal paradise or immortality would be one of them. This speculation is backed up by how his card states "Players can sacrifice 1 hp to get +1 ATK or MOV. If they die; looses 1 turn and comes back without the D6. if Ply dies again, it has 4 cycles to kill any player, then this rule repeats. Player dies if they dont kill anyone." and how there is the theory of Skid's Father being previously immortal.
It is notable to mention that he has met the Eyes on accident, as stated in the book's translation (thank you Shaggy!):
"Yesterday, I walked to the forest to make my way home in the cold of the night. The town, or what was left of it, I stopped going through there. I walked through the dark forest and I felt its eyes on my back. I looked around desperately, seeing nothing but seventh earth (more trees?). I kept walking before seeing the tree, the one that was staring at me... it asked (said?) "What unfortunate soul, running with a false end"
In the same book, we can see a skull. This is the ritual provided when they do their sacrifices for the Eyes. The picture depicts a child's skull with a diamond carved in the forehead, representing to who it'll be given to.
Trivia[]
- It is possible he is left handed, seen how he is holding his tool, in both pics featuring him as a woodcarver, with his left hand.
- There is a theory going around that he might have met The Eyes of the Universe a while back before meeting Lila. This would mean he has been terrorizing the population's children via spoon feeding his eldritch horror of a son yummy nutriments only found in toddlers. This is as well backed up by the fact his book is written in Latin, an old dead language.
- The picture with the word "Timor" on it bares a striking resemblance to the amulet. The closest evidence to that would be Pelo's recent drawing, in which the amulet is detailed almost exactly the same as the picture itself.
- "Timor" means I fear in Latin, which could imply at some point, Skid's Dad was afraid of the Eyes and/or what it stands for
- His skull can be found in Lila's house. Our main evidence of that being him is the hand besides him that holds the same ring as what he had.
- There is a possibility Skid's Dad was in the barbecue picture at the end of Tender Treats, although that is to be confirmed.
- People have theorized that Skid's Dad is inside the mannequin, but Pelo himself has debunked the theory by saying it was just a gag.
- If he were to come back, it is speculated he would embody the undead trope, seeing how he is said to be canonically dead.
- While the cultists all wear amulets, it is possible Skid's Dad wears a ring instead for the same purpose; Immortality. Seeing how it is always the same shade of teal as the amulets, it wouldn't be too far off to assume that ring is what granted him his life to last longer.
- In a QNA in Spooky Parade, it was confirmed by Pelo that Skid's Dad is the best gamer in town.
- It's implied Skid's Dad had a pet spider, either as a companion or as a test subject. We can see it in the beginning of the episode as well as in the ending cutscene. - It may be the reason why the mannequin is always moving around in the attic, as we see it pick it back up again once the thieves pushed it over.
- Skid's Dad's appearance has been the most inconsistent so far, ranking up a lot of off model official art and different hairstyles.
- Pelo has confirmed Skid's Dad doesn't love Lila via a subtle tweet. Despite this, it seems Skid's Dad does indeed care for his son, saying he's his "everything".
- He will be coming back for episode 9 and 10.
- Its possible Skid's Dad is the writer of the Latin pages. In the Latin pages, the writer meets an Entity in the forest. This same encounter is shown at the end of Hollow Sorrows on the door to Eyes, a man reaching to a glowing orb from a tree. The man has the amulet gem on his head as shown on the door, and this same amulet gem is on Skid's Dad's head in the ARG portrait.
- Pelo has revealed that Skiddad is a fan of Homestuck. He is particularly fond of the webcomic "Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff".
