Mr. Clown, whose real name seems to be García, is a minor antagonist in the Spooky Month series. He debuted in Spooky Month 2 - The Stars.
He is a serial child kidnapper and high-ranking member of the Cult, with connections to both the town and Skid's family in the past and present. In the current day, he appears to serve as Mayor Evermore's accountant.
Biography[]
Spooky Month 2 - The Stars[]
Skid and Pump happen across Mr. Clown while he is standing in an unknown alleyway, in which he is surrounded by several missing persons posters. The two ask him to tell a "spooky joke," at which point he laughs unintelligibly. Somehow, the duo understands him. Satisfied with the joke, they leave, after which an unnamed child walks into the alleyway and asks Mr. Clown for a joke. Instead of telling one, he whacks the kid in the head with a mallet and stuffs them into a bag while laughing.
Mr. Clown apparently follows Skid and Pump for the remainder of the episode, and is visible behind them when they go to spook Mr. Wonder and after they spook Kevin with the Eyes of the Universe.
Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest[]
Mr. Clown only appears in the Newgrounds ending of the episode. After Jack and John enter the Cult's mansion to investigate, he emerges from a hole in the floor made by the Eyes of the Universe in the previous episode. He says a vague sentence and begins to laugh, but his appearance triggers Jack's coulrophobia, causing Jack to shoot him repeatedly. John pulls Jack out of the mansion, and Mr. Clown writhes on the floor, laughing.
Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles[]
While Mr. Clown does not physically appear, he is pictured in John's tackboard that he is using to investigate the Cult. This picture is later burned by Ignacio to dispose of evidence.
Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats[]
Much like in Spooky Month 4, Mr. Clown does not physically appear. However, García is seen in a photograph in Lila's album at the end of the episode. When Lila realizes that Bob Velseb is in the image, she tears it in half and throws it on the floor.
Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows[]
García physically appears in this episode for the first time, initially seen sitting next to Mayor Evermore in his limousine. When Skid and Pump run up to the limo and scare Mayor Evermore by licking the window, García stifles a chuckle, and watches as the mayor tells Rick to clean up the mess.
Later, García is still present in the limo when Mayor Evermore stops to talk with Father Gregor.
Even later, García is with Mayor Evermore when he is talking with the Hobomen, attempting to hire them to demolish an unspecified building. After Moloch destroys the limousine by climbing over it, García and the mayor run up in shock, at which point Rick quits.

García is an egg-shaped elderly man with grey hair who is currently balding, with a bald patch on the back of his head. His forehead is wrinkled with several spots on it, and he wears a pair of semicircle glasses. He wears a collared long sleeve yellow shirt, a black belt, blue pants, and black shoes. He is also seen carrying around a brown briefcase.
The picture in Spooky Month 5 shows a somewhat younger García, where he has slightly more hair and isn't wearing glasses, but is otherwise physically identical.
Mr. Clown[]
Mr. Clown is an egg-shaped man in a clown costume, who has fluffy bright red hair with a wrinkled and spotted forehead. Unlike most Spooky Month characters, he has visible irises, which are yellow. He also has a bright red nose, a bright red painted on smile, and a small black line above each of his eyes.
Around his neck he wears a white ruff with a red line, with the rest of his torso and legs being yellow from the costume. He has three red spheres running down his torso vertically, and wears stereotypical bright red clown shoes. He has thick sleeves colored light blue with white vertical stripes, and he wears white gloves. He is seen holding a red balloon everywhere he goes.
Personality[]
García[]
Little can be ascertained from García's personality, since he has no dialogue and limited screen time. He seems to have a sense of humor, holding in a laugh when Skid and Pump scare Mayor Evermore in Spooky Month 6, but generally acts serious when in the presence of the mayor. García seemed annoyed by the Hobomen when interacting with them, presumably because of their drunkenness and stupidity.
Mr. Clown[]
Mr. Clown appears to be completely insane, with a majority of his dialogue being deranged and indecipherable laughter. The only other dialogue he has is stilted and/or equally deranged, evidenced by him saying a cryptic nothing without prompting to Jack and John when they enter the Cult's mansion. Even after being repeatedly shot, he just lays on the floor and laughs. This could be from masochistic tendencies, because pain is funny to him, just to scare the police, or a mixture of them all.
When not talking, Mr. Clown is still exceptionally cruel. He is a serial child kidnapper and, unlike Frank, who returns the children after being paid, when Mr. Clown kidnaps a child, they are never seen again. He does seem to have some self-control, however, because he doesn't kidnap Skid and Pump and instead tells them a joke. While the subtitles reveal that it is a pretty corny one, the duo still find it humorous and are allowed to leave unharmed. For unknown reasons, Mr. Clown does follow them around for the rest of the episode, though.
Powers[]
Durability[]
Presumably because he possesses one of the Cult's magical amulets, Mr. Clown is far more durable than a normal human should be. While being shot repeatedly by Jack does cause him harm, it does not kill him, and he simply lays on the floor and laughs it off. By Spooky Month 6, he has made a full recovery and no physical damage is visible.
Hammer Space[]
In Spooky Month 2, Mr. Clown pulls out a mallet and child-sized burlap sack from nowhere.
This may just be for cartoony effect, and might not be a canon power.
Trivia[]
- While García went unnamed in Spooky Month 5 and Spooky Month 6 due to not having any lines, Sr Pelo confirmed his name on a stream shortly after Hollow Sorrows released.
- While unconfirmed, it is very likely that García and Mr. Clown are the same person.
- Both have the same egg-like body shape.
- Both wear predominantly yellow clothing.
- Both have forehead wrinkles and spots.
- Both carry one object everywhere they go.
- The artist of the barbecue photo said García "looks like a funny guy."
- It is implied that Mr. Clown doesn't kidnap Skid and Pump because he was friends with Skid's Father.
- This can be seen in a photograph in Spooky Month 5, where García is seen at the same cookout as Skid's Father, who is in the background and barely visible due to the picture being scratched. Sr Pelo has also made a doodle of Mr. Clown and Bob Velseb standing next to Skid's Father.
- Mr. Clown seems to be able to communicate without actually talking. When Skid and Pump ask him to tell a joke in Spooky Month 2, he responds with unintelligible laughter that the duo appear to understand as English.
- The audience can translate what he said by looking at the subtitles.
- Mr. Clown can be seen following Skid and Pump around town in the background of some scenes in Spooky Month 2. While it is unknown why he was doing this, it potentially had something to do with Cult business.
- Mr. Clown makes a high-pitched honking noise when he is shot.
- Mr. Clown's design was intended to be a parody of the "scary clown" trope. Inspirations seem to include John Wayne Gacy, Pennywise, Bozo the Clown, and the Killer Klowns from Outer Space.[1]
