Spooky Month Wiki

You two! You kept me in the attic for two years, eating rats and spiders! I will burn your skin and feast on your flesh!
― Moloch, to Skid and Pump.

Moloch is a major antagonist in the Spooky Month series, and the titular main antagonist of the movie Spooky Month Movie: Scroll of Moloch.

Originally summoned by Skid and Pump to celebrate Halloween, he was left in an attic by himself for years. After escaping by possessing an exterminator hired by Lila to get rid of him, he attempted to kill her, Skid, and Pump, only to be tricked into snapping the neck of his host, killing his mortal body. Several more years later, he escaped the morgue he was being held in to attempt revenge on Skid and Pump, but was exorcised by Father Gregor and banished back to Hell.

Biography[]

Spooky Month[]

Moloch is partially summoned by Skid and Pump using a Ouija board, with only the top half of his body visible. The two inform him that it is 'spooky month,' and briefly do the Spooky Dance with him.

In the Newgrounds ending, Moloch realizes that it has become November, at which point he is attacked by Santa Claus.

Spooky Month 2 - The Stars[]

Moloch has a minor role, appearing once in the attic where he was left. He asks Skid to let him out, but Skid runs off after telling him that he can't because it's spooky month.

Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest[]

Moloch attempts to escape the attic by smashing the floor beneath him, angering Lila, who is trying to sleep. Assuming it's just a rat infestation, she calls an exterminator to deal with him. Later that day, Dexter Erotoph arrives and enters the attic, setting a mouse trap to catch the "rat." He is possessed by Moloch, and, now freed from the Ouija board he was stuck in, he makes his way downstairs to get revenge on his captors.

Skid returns to his house with Pump in tow, finding Moloch attacking his mother. Moloch drops Lila and refocuses his attention on the children who originally summoned him. While Pump immediately knows that it is Moloch, Skid disagrees, and says that Moloch should turn his head around because "only demons can do that." Moloch agrees, but says afterwards he is going to kill them. After twisting his head, his neck snaps, and he "dies."

Sometime afterwards, his body is taken away to the town's morgue.

Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles[]

While Moloch does not physically appear, he is seen in a picture drawn by Skid, that shows himself, Pump and their Happy Fella possessed by him.

Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows[]

Moloch begins the episode still possessing Dexter's lifeless body, and is in the middle of being prepped for moving by Patty when Skid and Pump burst into the morgue. After being shuffled out, Moloch, presumably angered at the sight of them, possesses Patty. After a brief encounter with Jack and John, he begins to wander the hospital, where he runs into Dexter's mother. After she asks for help to find her doctor, he leads her back to the morgue, where he kills her.

After Skid and Pump return to the hospital with Father Gregor, intending to apologize for what they did earlier, Moloch is there waiting for them. Gregor rushes the two children outside to prepare an exorcism, but they return almost immediately after. Once all three of them are there, Moloch begins attacking them, but is held back by Gregor's prayers and holy water, which successfully force Moloch to leave Patty's body. Now in his full form, Moloch attempts to manipulate the trio with illusions of Dexter and his mother, but he is forced to flee through the wall after Skid and Pump say his name out loud.

Moloch begins to rampage across town while being chased by Skid, Pump, and Gregor. He destroys several things and possesses a few people, but is eventually chased back to Skid's house. The children, who are faster than Father Gregor, reach Moloch first. Still believing him to be their friend, they allow him to possess them so that way Gregor can't hurt him. Moloch, in Skid and Pump's bodies, attempts to kill Father Gregor, but is forced from their body and flees to the attic to hide. With Father Gregor now knowing his name, and him being right above the Ouija board from which he was originally summoned, he is successfully exorcised back to Hell, which causes his physical body to turn to stone and partially crumble to dust.

In Toxie’s “remake”, he only appears for one scene before Dexter Erotoph shoots him, killing him on the spot.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

For the first five episodes, only Moloch's top half was shown. He appears like a fairly standard pop-culture demon, having a muscular humanoid torso with bumpy red skin. He has a square-like head, with two bright yellow eyes and several large fangs protruding from his lips. His head has two sets of horns, one small pair on his forehead that point straight up, and a much larger pair where his ears should be that curve upwards and to the side. His hands are disproportionately large, being brown in color with fingertips covered in bright yellow cracks.

The lower half of his body was revealed in Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows. He has two pitch black unguligrade legs, ending in two bright yellow goat-like hooves. Additionally, below his stomach is a large furnace-like structure that is constantly burning.

People possessed by Moloch gain his yellow eyes, pairs of horns, large protruding fangs, and yellow fingers.

Personality[]

Moloch is not particularly evil and has shown to be somewhat childish, seeming very excited when he hears that it is Spooky Month and disappointed when he realizes it is November. However, he is shown to resort to very drastic measures to get what he wants and vents his anger on others, shown by how he keeps slamming his fists onto the floor in anger and chases after Lila in Unwanted Guest, seemingly wanting to kill her. He also seems to have no problem with child murder as he threatens to eat Skid and Pump. Fortunately, he is rather dimwitted and arrogant as, seeing that Pump didn't believe he was a demon, he tried to prove him wrong by snapping his neck which ended up killing him.

In Hollow Sorrows, Moloch is much more malevolent, sadistic and vengeful, as he sees no qualms with hurting innocent people, even possessing Patty in a painful manner and psychologically traumatizing her after he uses her body for his nefarious deeds, like murdering Dexter’s mother Michelle in cold blood. He's also shown to be much more willing to hurt the children, no longer joking around as he even uses illusions to try and pressure Father Gregor. Despite this, he's still shown to be somewhat cowardly as he tries to flee from the priest and is surprised when Skid and Pump try to protect him, seeing him as their friend, though he does use this to his advantage by tricking the two into letting him possess them.

Powers[]

Since Moloch is a supernatural entity from the underworld, he is destined to have some abilities that he uses against the cast in Spooky Month. These powers will be listed here.

Possession[]

Moloch tends to use his possession power frequently in the series, as he’s used it in Unwanted Guest and Hollow Sorrows. The major instances of this ability in use is when Moloch possesses Dexter and the kids, Skid & Pump. When he possesses somebody, their appearances changes to match his look, such as growing horns and sharp teeth, along with their eyes turning yellow. As seen with Patty’s possession, the appearance-changing gimmick of Moloch’s possession ability can sometime be evolutionary, since with her, she started with the yellow eyes, soon changing to getting the horns and fangs. This also happens with Dexter, as he gets horns once Lila putts him with a hockey stick; This evolutionary-type scheme could also be triggered by anger, as seen with Dexter’s case. Moloch seems to turn into a goopy substance during possession, implying that he’s actively roaming inside the host’s nervous system. Moloch seems to be able to escape a host on his own, as seen with Patty studying Dexter’s body until Moloch decides to leave it. However, another way of getting Moloch out of a host is by the use of the holy cross, as using it makes the host vomit out the goopy substance, which is of course Moloch. A few of the other powers listed here could also be parts of the possession ability.

Levitation[]

Although we never see Moloch’s true/trapped form levitate, it is implied that Moloch has an ability where he can glide. This is seen when Moloch is possessing Dexter and Patty, however we see more of this ability in action with Dexter in question. When Moloch is possessing someone, he can both float and glide. In Unwanted Guest, the gliding part of this power can be seen when Moloch is chasing Lila in Dexter’s body. The floating part of this power can be seen more with Patty.

Illusions[]

In Hollow Sorrows, Moloch can be seen toying with Father Gregor in the hospital, via his illusion power. This ability consists of Moloch pretending to be someone, sometimes more than one person, in order to lure in a potential victim. Moloch attempts to fool Gregor with this ability. How he does it is by pretending to be Dexter Erotoph, and his mother. Dexter asks Gregor for a hug, and after that Michelle comes into play, asking Gregor to help her son. Unfortunately for Moloch, Gregor is not phased by this and throws holy water at him.

Strength[]

Moloch is very brute and big, so he definitely has some strength. This power was used by Moloch when he bashed through the walls of the hospital and candy store, along with the door of Lila’s house. There’s even a sight gag of the Costume Happy Fella character being knocked into a dumpster by Moloch’s sheer force. Not only that, but Moloch even crushes the limousine that Mayor Evermore was using.

Wall Climbing[]

This ability is only seen when Moloch is possessing Skid & Pump, however it is interesting to see since Moloch probably wouldn’t use this ability in his regular form.

Telekinesis[]

When Moloch is possessing Patty, we can see many objects in the morgue start to fly around and be thrown towards Gregor and the kids, along with the doors with corpses inside opening and closing at a rapid rate. This was because of Moloch using telekinesis, however he does not use this power too often to his disadvantage.

Trivia[]

  • "Moloch" is a word that appears several times in the Hebrew Bible, and is commonly interpreted as the name of a demonized Canaanite god who was worshiped through child sacrifices.
    • Moloch's bottom half being a furnace is probably a reference to the idea that children were sacrificed by being burned.
    • Additionally, his brief stop to look at newborn babies in Hollow Sorrows is likely a reference to his child-sacrifice origins.
  • Moloch's name is pronounced differently by different characters. Skid and Pump pronounce it as "maa-luhk," while Father Gregor pronounces it "moe-lock." The latter is the more traditional pronunciation.
  • Moloch is the only character to be the main antagonist of two episodes, those being Unwanted Guest and Hollow Sorrows.
  • When summoning Moloch in the first Spooky Month, Skid and Pump use the Ouija board to spell "U GOT SPOOKED," the catchphrase of Ooga Booga.
  • Skid's drawing of Moloch in Deadly Smiles is foreshadowing for Hollow Sorrows, as it shows Skid and Pump being possessed. The drawing of their possession looks identical to their actual possession in the episode.
