“Your parents love you, kids. They love you no matter what.”
― John to Skid and Pump in Spooky Month - Hollow Sorrows
John is the sheriff at the local police department, and partner of Jack.
Biography[]
Spooky Month - The Stars[]
He appears in the ending of the episode putting both thieves into a police car, and is seen in the real ending on Newgrounds driving with Jack, along with the thieves arrested in the backseat. They notice the house on the hill and make a note of it, then Jack does the spooky dance and crashes the car into Ooga Booga.
Spooky Month - Unwanted Guest[]
Jack and John show up at the Candy Club after Kevin is given sugar by the kids. John makes a comment about Jack shooting someone, possibly Mr. Clown as seen in the Newgrounds ending, however it's unclear when that takes place in the timeline so this isn't proven. John then tries the sugar on the counter, confirming it's sugar, before Jack and John get candy for themselves and leave. They appear again in the Newgrounds ending, investigating the house on the hill and encountering the cultists, before Jack shoots Mr. Clown out of fear.
Spooky Month - Deadly Smiles[]
Jack and John leave a donut shop, Jack asking John if he feels any better. After, they find the Happy Fella doll in their police cruiser after Frank threw it in there. Jack assumes a kid lost it, and suggests they turn it into the Candy Store. They go to the police station to fill out paperwork. They appear again later in the episode, after Kevin chases the Hatzgang out, and give the Happy Fella to him. John is very clearly sick throughout the episode, seen sneezing and shaking.
In the Newgrounds ending, which is a prequel to the episode, Jack and John are seen again, investigating the cult and the house on the hill at John's house. After Jack tells John he must be stressed, they decide to leave to get donuts. A cultist then enters the house and burns John's evidence, as well as his house, to the ground. The Newgrounds ending also shows how John got sick, drinking from a dirty mug.
Spooky Month - Tender Treats[]
Jack and John are seen at the very beginning of the episode, getting yelled at by Mayor Evermore about Bob Velseb. After Evermore threats their jobs and kicks them out, John says they need to take care of Bob before more bodies turn up. They're seen again a little later, after Lila was attacked by Bob, presumably called by Jaune after Lila dropped the phone. They investigate the attic, but don't find any signs of Bob. They then stop Lila from beating the shit out of a child. Jack and John tell Lila to just stay in her house with the doors locked, and they will find Skid and Pump. They're then seen at the end of the episode, killing Bob by running him over several times and shooting him, before taking Lila, Jaune, and the kids home.
They show up again in the Newgrounds ending after being called by Patty. John is given evidence about the cult, finding an amulet in Bob's chest. Meanwhile Jack desecrates a corpse.
Spooky Month - Hollow Sorrows[]
First seen attempting to ask Patty for something, only to discover she's been possessed by Moloch. They assume she's stressed out, and decide to wait in the car. They're seen again after Gregor discovers Moloch and quickly drops Skid and Pump off with them. John asks why they're with Father Gregor. The police and the kids have a moment, Jack and John telling them that their parents are proud of them, and love them no matter what. We also get to see John look at a photo of his daughter solemnly. Literally Zach shows up, knocking on the window in an attempt to scare the cops before leaving. After Patty is saved from the possession, she appears at the window and tells them she's going to be a police officer in order to legally own a gun, despite both of the officer's dislike.
Profile[]
Personality[]
John is a very gruffy, no-nonsense police officer. Despite this, he is shown to be friendly and caring, and also forgiving to his co-worker, Jack, whenever he messes up. Despite being more rational and focused than Jack, he can be quite the short-temper, not liking it when somebody pulls a prank on him. He is shown to be determined, but this determination often turns into stubbornness, as well, as in Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles, he continues his search into the cult happenings in town with the help of Jack despite being sick. He seems to be quite fixated on the investigation of the cult, having his own stringboard of it in his house before being burned down by the previously mentioned.
Appearance[]
John is a grown man, seemingly in his late 30's/mid 40's. Despite this fact, he's very short. He has brown curly hair and a mustache. He wears a black undershirt with a dark blue jacket, black belt, brown jeans, and black shoes. He is sometimes shown to have a cigarette floating by his mouth.
Relationships[]
Jack[]
John and Jack are co-workers, and they spend practically all the time on the other's side. Despite their differences. they share a friendly superior-and-worker bond, as we're shown that John easily gets along with him on the series, even when he messes up. However, when Jack does get on his nerves, he will not hesitate to get angry at him and scold him for his actions.
Patty[]
John and Patty are also co-workers, although Patty works on the morgue, both of them are quite similar in attitude, both of them being rational and composed, he also worries about her when he sees her as she's possesed by Moloch, even if he was oblivious to that fact. However, Patty gets somewhat annoyed at him (and Jack) whenever they argue. And in Hollow Sorrows, when she says she's going to quit her job to join them in the force, John strongly disagrees with her, but besides that, even if they don't interact as much, they're friendly to the other.
Hope (daughter)[]
They seemed to be quite close to the other, like shown in the photos and drawings that John kept on his house before being burnt down. In Hollow Sorrows, John looks at a photo of her in the car visor melancholically, but Literally Zach interrupts the moment shortly after.
Karen (wife)[]
Besides being his wife, she is a complete mystery. Nothing is known about her besides a bit of her appearence, it's somewhat possible that she either divorced him, because of the lack of a ring on John's finger, however, Jaune doesn't have one either and she's still with her husband, Aaron, leaving that she may have died on the fire of his house, but we are still to wait for new information regarding them.
Lila[]
Although their interactions are very few, he knows her and possibly her deceased husband back from his childhood, the both are acquaintances.
Strengths[]
Good aim and reflexes[]
John can shoot quite fastly. Reacting and reaching for his gun fastly when it comes to threats, shown both in the Unwanted Guest Newgrounds ending, and Tender Treats.
Intuition[]
In the Deadly Smiles ending, John's shown to be very perspective, when he (obliviously correct) feels he's being watched, however, Jack turns him down.
Weaknesses[]
Stubbornness[]
While he's more rational than Jack, when working or doing something, he won't pay attention to his own well-being, just focusing on what he has to do, causing him to get sick, like when he drinks from his dirty cup in Deadly Smiles' true ending, even if Jack tells him he'll get sick eventually.
