“Hey, kids!”
― Frank's catchphrase, usually to Skid and Pump.
Frank is a supporting character in the Spooky Month series, debuting in Spooky Month and appearing in every episode.
He is a child kidnapper who seemingly lives in his van, driving around town and stuffing any children he can find into bags. According to an advertisement, he then sells them back to their parents for ransom money.
Despite this, he is good friends with Skid and Pump and does not kidnap them, instead giving them rides to wherever they need to go. This seems to be because he was friends with their parents as a child, and sees himself as a sort of uncle figure to them.
Biography[]
Spooky Month[]
Like most character's, Frank's appearance in this episode is brief. He pulls up to Skid and Pump in his van and offers them candy, which they gladly accept. They inform him that it is the spooky month, which causes him to excitedly do the Spooky Dance and drive off, where he kidnaps Pelito.
Spooky Month 2 - The Stars[]
Skid and Pump walk up to Frank's van, which is parked by the side of the road and disguised as an ice cream truck. The kids pound on the window, which causes Frank to pop out and yell at them before he realizes who they are, at which point he becomes happy. After the two ask for ice cream, he gives each of them ice cream shaped like their faces, which the two eat and seemingly teleport away with.
Afterwards, Lucky walks up to his van and also asks for ice cream, which Frank gives him. Lucky then falls unconscious, which causes Frank to do the Spooky Dance.
Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest[]
Here, Frank drives up to Skid and Pump while they are walking to the mall. After they tell him where they're going, he offers them a ride, and lets them sit in the back next to a kidnapped child in a bag, which he had apparently forgotten was there. He lies to them, saying he is just "playing doctor," but the kid wakes up. He gives Skid a bottle of "medicine" to put them back to sleep, which he promptly empties over them. The kid then stops moving, and Pump tells Frank that they are out of "medicine," which causes Frank to shout in shock.
When the camera cuts back, Frank is driving away after having dropped off Skid and Pump at the mall.
Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles[]
Frank is seen waiting outside the town's movie theater in his van, counting a stack of money. After seeing a "child" leave the movie theater alone, he pulls out a pair of binoculars and kidnaps it, intending to ransom it off. Only after kidnapping it does he realize that it is a doll, which comes alive and bites his thumb in an attempt to hurt him. He punches the doll to stun it, and promptly throws it through the window of Jack and John's police car while driving away.
Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats[]
Frank has a very minor role in this episode, with Skid and Pump bumping into him in the middle of trick-or-treating. They ask him for a ride to the candy store, but he refuses because he is "on vacation." He then walks away, stealing a kid's bag of candy in the process.
He later appears in an old photograph in Lila's photo album, which shows him as a child alongside various other characters. After realizing Bob Velseb is in the picture too, Lila rips it in half and throws it on the floor.
Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows[]
Skid and Pump encounter Frank after leaving CandyClub, where he says hi to them. Pump then announces they should trick-or-treat, and Frank presumably gives them a ride to Ignacio's house.
Frank reappears after Skid and Pump leave CandyClub a second time, now accompanied by Father Gregor. The two ask who each other are, and Frank attempts to give Skid and Pump another ride, but Gregor shuts him down and tells the kids that, even though he gives them safe rides often, one day he might not. Gregor also threatens to call the police on Frank, which causes him to drive off, angrily mumbling under his breath.
Later on, Frank is in the process of trying to kidnap Lucky, who is trampled by Moloch before he gets the chance. Frank looks on in shock as Skid, Pump, and Father Gregor chase the demon, and drives off.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Frank is a very tall man with a rectangular head of short black hair, black eyes with white pupils, and stubble on his chin. His torso is large and muscular, and he usually wears a plain, light blue t-shirt with short sleeves, black pants, and black shoes. In Spooky Month 4, he changes his outfit to be a light blue sweatshirt with thin vertical white stripes with his sleeves rolled up. In Spooky Month 5, his "vacation" outfit consists of a light blue Hawaiian shirt with a yellow flower pattern, and a pair of sunglasses.
As a child, Frank looked largely the same. He was much smaller with no stubble, slightly longer hair, and normal-looking eyes that had black pupils and white sclerae.
Personality[]
Most of the time, Frank is a relatively cruel and heartless individual who has no problems with being a serial kidnapper. These children are typically stuffed into bags, and then held onto until he is able to successfully sell them back to whoever is looking for them. Although he normally just drives by and takes them, he can also be more clever, like selling ice cream laced with some kind of tranquilizer or anesthesia that knocks them unconscious first.
This is very different with Skid and Pump, who he is extremely kind to as a result of knowing Skid's mother and Pump's father when they were children. Frank constantly offers them free rides to wherever they want to go, and gave them free ice cream when they asked for it. He considers himself to be an uncle to them, and was genuinely upset when Father Gregor prevented him from giving them a ride.
Trivia[]
- Frank's name is a reference to the fact that he resembles Frankenstein's monster.
- This is also referenced in Spooky Month's subtitles, which refer to him as "Palenstein."
- Frank is one of the only characters to have physically appeared in every episode of Spooky Month, alongside Skid, Pump, Lila, and Ooga Booga.
- In Spooky Month 4, a picture of Frank can be seen on a tackboard in Jack and John's office. This implies that Jack and John are aware of his activities, and are actively looking to arrest him.
- The fact he is wearing a fake mustache suggests that he has used more disguises than just an ice cream vendor.
