You need to behave yourselves in the eyes of the lord. I will be your guide. And, I know... your parents would be proud of you.
― Father Gregor, agreeing to give Skid and Pump guidance.

Gregor Raguel, better known as Father Gregor, is a major character in the Spooky Month series. He debuted in Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats, and later served as one of the main characters in Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows.

Father Gregor seems to live within the town's church, apparently a new arrival and the town's only spiritual leader. A Christian priest, he is one of the only well-intentioned adults in the series thus far. In Spooky Month 6, he guided Skid and Pump around town so that they could prove themselves pure in the eyes of God, only to end up having to fight off Moloch, a demon the children had accidentally summoned years prior. Not long after exorcizing Moloch, he was kidnapped by the Cult and given to the Eyes of the Universe as an offering.

Biography[]

Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats[]

Father Gregor's appearance is quick, emerging from the church after Skid and Pump knock on its door to trick-or-treat. The Father tries to pour hot water on the boys, but misses and instead hits Lucky, one of the several children lined up outside. Father Gregor then curses the crowd of trick-or-treaters, calling them "devil-worshipping fiends."

Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows[]

Father Gregor's role in this episode is far more substantial, being one of the main characters. He is first shown watching a video of Dexter Erotoph, while Dexter's mother, Michelle, explains her situation. She talks about how sad she has been since his disappearance, and how badly she wants him to return home safely. Father Gregor says he will help as much as he can and escorts her outside.

Once outside, Father Gregor runs into Skid and Pump, who ask to enter the church. He denies them entry, and questions why they are there in the first place. After realizing they have little guidance in their lives, Father Gregor offers to be that guide, and tells them to apologize to anybody they have been mischievous towards. The three then depart from the church.

In order, the three go to the Gensomooru mall where Skid and Pump try and fail to apologize to a mascot they had harassed earlier, the CandyClub store where Skid and Pump try and fail to pay back money for all the free candy they have been given by Kevin, they run into Frank and Father Gregor threatens to report him to the police, and then Skid and Pump try and fail to apologize to Ignacio, who makes a call to report Father Gregor's presence after he leaves.

While the trio are walking, Mayor Evermore pulls up in his limousine to talk to Father Gregor while Skid and Pump go to apologize to the Hatzgang. When Skid and Pump return, Mayor Evermore says he hopes to talk to Father Gregor again "soon." The three then make their way to Eden Hospital so Skid and Pump can apologize to Patty, only for Father Gregor to realize that she has been possessed by a demon. Father Gregor rushes the kids outside and gives them to Jack and John, and then rushes back inside to exorcise Patty.

Before he can complete the ritual, Skid and Pump sneak back inside to say hello. Father Gregor temporarily fights off the demon with holy water and a cross and forces it to leave Patty's body, but is unable to fully defeat it due to Skid and Pump's presence. The demon then attempts to trick Father Gregor into giving up Skid and Pump by using illusions of Dexter and Michelle to manipulate him, but the Father dispels them with holy water. Having failed to learn the demon's name thus far, it flees after Skid and Pump call him Moloch. Father Gregor then begins to chase Moloch around town with Skid and Pump so that he can finish exorcising him.

In order, they follow Moloch from the wreckage of Mayor Evermore's car, to the Hatzgang, to Ignacio's house, to Frank about to kidnap a child, to CandyClub, to the back alley of Gensomooru, and finally to Skid's house where Moloch was originally summoned. Father Gregor enters the house to find that Moloch had possessed the two children, and is bitten by the possessed Pump, bloodying his leg and giving him a limp. After forcing Moloch from their bodies, he follows the demon to Skid's attic to finish the job. Now knowing Moloch's name, and having him cornered above the Ouija board he was originally summoned from, Father Gregor successfully exorcises him back to Hell. Leaving Skid's house, Father Gregor finds Jaune and an inebriated Lila outside. He scolds her for being an irresponsible mother, and then leaves for his church.

Back at the church, Father Gregor is ambushed by several Cultists and knocked out with a brick. While unconscious, he is taken to the Cult's mansion. When he wakes up, he is forced into a mysterious door at knifepoint. Inside the door, he beholds The Eyes of the Universe, which causes him to drop to his knees with his arms outstretched, trembling. The Eyes' tentacles then envelop the screen, leaving Father Gregor's fate unknown.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Current[]

Father Gregor is an elderly bald man, probably somewhere in his 50s or 60s. He has an oval-shaped head with several wrinkles, sunken eyes, thin eyebrows, and large ears. He wears a completely black priest robe, with black pants underneath and a pair of black shoes. He wears a necklace with a wooden cross around his neck, and he constantly has a brown satchel hanging over his shoulder that carries things like holy water vials.

Young[]

A photograph of him in the church shows that, as a young adult, Father Gregor had a full head of average-length black hair with a widow's peak. His eyes were not yet sunken, and he had no wrinkles, but is otherwise physically identical. In the picture, he is not wearing the wooden cross around his neck or his satchel.

Personality[]

Father Gregor is one of the few well-meaning adults seen thus far in the Spooky Month series. He is kind a majority of the time, so long as he doesn't view the person he is interacting with as unholy in some way, and even then, he seems to try his best to get along, like with Skid and Pump. That said, Father Gregor will not force himself to be nice to a person if they act completely horrible, like Ignacio, and sometimes his anger at others will cause him to lash out, like when he poured hot water on the trick-or-treaters in Spooky Month 5. Despite presumably not knowing Michelle Erotoph prior, he agreed to help look for her missing son as best he could and agreed to pray for him when possible.

Father Gregor is a very devout and moral man, and while most of his principles are good or harmless, some of them border on ridiculous. Examples of the latter are not wanting children to run because they could "hurt themselves," and not wanting people to eat candy because it is "poison for your body, and the starting machine of gluttony." Still, he is far more good than bad. Father Gregor says that people should be kind to everyone, even if they are rude to you, and will scold people for saying or doing things against his own moral compass. Examples include when Patty tells Gregor to give up Skid and Pump to Moloch, and when he chastises Lila for being drunk and unaware of where her son is at all times.

Relationships[]

Skid and Pump[]

Father Gregor has a complicated relationship with Skid and Pump. While he initially dislikes them, seeing their costumes as affronts to the Lord, he also recognizes that the both of them badly need guidance in their lives. Gregor wants them to act more mature than they actually are, telling them that they shouldn't run and shouldn't eat candy, despite the fact that all children do that. Still, he continues to work with them even as they continue to frustrate him. Many of their apologies are poor or unsuccessful, and their childishness often causes Father Gregor headaches. He seems to stick with them because he sympathizes with them, because Skid has a widowed mother and Pump's parents are mostly absent. He wants them to be better for their parents once they see them again, and cause them as little inconvenience as possible, things that Skid and Pump are immediately willing to go along with.

Things become more complex after it is revealed that Skid and Pump summoned Moloch and consider him to be a friend. The two constantly plead with Father Gregor to not hurt him, because they are unable to see that Moloch wants to cause all of them genuine harm. They think chasing him around town is just a game of tag, and that Father Gregor is following them because he is "it." Their misunderstanding of the situation comes to an apex when they allow Moloch to possess them so that he can hide from Father Gregor, not knowing that he only wants to do it so he can remain somewhat safe. Even though Gregor's opinion of Skid and Pump seems to have lessened by the end of Hollow Sorrows, he still sympathizes them and blames Lila for Skid's behavior, calling her an irresponsible mother.

Moloch[]

For obvious reasons, Father Gregor and Moloch absolutely despise each other. Before even forcing Moloch from Patty's body, Gregor immediately knew that he had to banish him from the mortal plane, and Moloch immediately began attempting to kill Father Gregor. The Father's hatred of the demon was so immense that he chased him around town for who-knows-how-long just to finally exorcise him.

Talents and Skills[]

Priesthood[]

Father Gregor's greatest skill is his priesthood and holiness, which allowed him to fight off and banish Moloch single-handedly. While it did not make him immune to Moloch's attacks, it did let him send the demon back to Hell after he had resurrected himself, something that likely could not have been accomplished by anyone else in the town. In his satchel, he carried around a golden cross that forces demons from peoples' bodies so long as Father Gregor commands it, and he also brought several vials of holy water with him wherever he went that could be used to harm unholy creatures, seemingly burning them like acid. The holy water was also used by Radford to bless CandyClub, which caused an immediate influx of customers.

Willpower[]

Even though Father Gregor is a mere mortal man, he arguably has the strongest willpower of any characters in Spooky Month. He singlehandedly dedicates himself to hunting down and exorcising a rogue demon, despite the fact it could have easily killed him. Even after walking into a morgue that is covered in blood, he barely reacts, and even once Moloch wounds him by biting his leg, he still doesn't give up. The only time his willpower faulters is when he beholds the Eyes of the Universe, an otherworldly entity that is effectively a god.

Athleticism[]

Despite being fairly old, Father Gregor is more athletic than most people his age. While he is slower than Skid and Pump, he was still able to follow the two of them and Moloch across town without getting too far behind. While Moloch was possessing Skid and Pump, the latter bit Father Gregor's leg and wounded him, but Gregor was able to get away with just a limp. He was also able to take a brick to the back of his head without lasting injuries, only being knocked out.

Trivia[]

  • Father Gregor's full name was revealed by a picture on his wall.[1]
    • Father Gregor's surname, Raguel, is a reference to the eponymous angel from Judaic traditions. The name means "God shall pasture," and is etymologically related to the Hebrew word "rōʿī" (רֹעִי), meaning "shepherd."
  • His personality is based on The Perfectionist from the Courage The Cowardly Dog episode "Perfect".
  • Father Gregor appears to be the only priest in town, and a fairly new arrival in general. Not only did he not make any appearances until Spooky Month 5, but in Spooky Month 6 his church has a sign out front that says "grand opening."
  • Father Gregor is one of the few characters to have an official 3D model made of them, alongside Moloch and Bob Velseb. It is most well-known for the several shitposts made by the Spooky Month crew, which feature Father Gregor doing things like dancing.
    • In Spooky Month 6, the model appeared when Father Gregor was going up a flight of stairs into Lila's attic, and when exiting her house.
  • It is unclear whether or not Father Gregor is meant to be part of the Cult. Several drawings made by Sr Pelo prior to the release of Spooky Month 6 imply that he was affiliated with them in at least some way, but him being a Cultist doesn't really make any sense when considering what happens during the ending of Hollow Sorrows. If he was really a Cultist, it seems unlikely that they would need to kidnap him and hold him at knifepoint in order to get him to see the Eyes of the Universe. Additionally, Father Gregor is a very devout Christian. It makes little sense for him to preach so much about the Christian God if he doesn't even truly believe in him, and instead worships a different eldritch entity.
    • The diamond insignia of the Cult is visible on the front door of the church. However, considering that Father Gregor seems to be a fairly new arrival in town, this building may have simply been owned by the Cult in the past, and was later renovated into a church once Father Gregor moved in.
    • The aforementioned drawings by Sr Pelo may have also been foreshadowing for the Cult kidnapping Father Gregor at the end of Hollow Sorrows, since one of the doodles showcase Gregor and some Cultists giving the Eyes of the Universe presents. Put into a new context, this could have actually implied that the Cult was giving Father Gregor himself to the Eyes as a gift, since Gregor is not actually holding any presents.
