I'm tired! I'm tired of you two! Your spooky month and that dumb dance! I've been trying to fulfill my needs, and you always stopped me! I can't handle it anymore!
― Dexter Erotoph, to Skid and Pump in Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles.

Dexter Erotoph was an exterminator who appeared in Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest, Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles, and Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows. After being hired by Lila to get rid of the "rat" in her attic, he was possessed by Moloch and tried to attack Lila. He died when Pump convinced Moloch to "turn his head around" to prove that it was Moloch who was possessing Dexter. Dexter's soul would later possess the Happy Fella doll. In Deadly Smiles, the Happy Fella takes on a much more prominent role as the main antagonist. According to Lila in the beginning, it has been trying to convince Skid to get a cat. The fella tries to kill many people throughout the episode, including Skid and Pump themselves, but it only succeeds in stabbing Kevin in the leg before it is kicked out the candy store. Eventually it snaps and chases after Lila and the kids in a murderous rage, eventually meeting its death, reincarnation, and subsequent second death after Jaune brings in a second Happy Fella.

Appearance[]

Dexter wore a yellow mariner's cap, gas mask, yellow hazmat suit, name-tag, brown backpack with eyeball keychain, orange Hazmat gloves and black Hazmat boots. Behind the mask, he had black hair, an abnormality in his left eye, and wore round glasses. When possessing the Happy Fella doll, he has brown hair that gradually gets more and more messy, an orange sweater, denim overalls with orange buttons, and orange shoes.

Personality[]

Dexter was a disturbed individual who took a job as an exterminator to satisfy his need to kill. He seemed to love his job as he had a happy-go-lucky attitude. He didn't seem to mind what he did during his job as he happily mentioned he kills "rats, bats, cats and everything fast." Lila appeared disturbed at the mention of him killing cats, but Dexter claimed that he loves cats, although this was likely false, as he claims that he's a dog person not even 10 seconds later.

After his soul was trapped in a Happy Fella doll, he would grow more sadistic and violent due to not being able to kill.[1] [2] He actively likes to sneak up on his victims. Its savagery is demonic, as it has shown to make even Frank freak out. However, Dexter does at least have certain standards, most notably when he displayed disgust towards Roy when he demanded Skid and Pump to hand over their clothes to get the Happy Fella doll back.

Strengths[]

Resistance to sharp objects: The Happy Fella was shown to not be fazed after getting stabbed in the head.

Possession: The Happy Fella is probably known to possess other Happy Fella dolls, however it is most likely that the Happy Fella only can possess other Happy Fella dolls.

Intelligence: The Happy Fella was shown to be smart enough to escape Skid and Pump at the theater, cunning enough to tell Roy to not hand himself over to Skid and Pump, and always ready to kill his two "friends" by keeping a kitchen knife on him at all times.

Weaknesses[]

Heat: The Happy Fella is made of plastic and is highly vulnerable to high temperatures, meeting his doom (twice) in Lila's oven.

Size: Despite being dangerous with weapons, the Happy Fella is still the size of a regular doll and can easily be overpowered, being thrown around the candy store by Kevin, dragged along the carpet by Skid, and pushed into an oven by both of the kids. The Happy Fella is only lethal when it has a weapon, but is capable of biting in self defense.

Trivia[]

  • Dexter appears to be a reference to the exterminator in the 1990 film "Arachnophobia." Although, this is not confirmed.
  • Dexter seemed to be very forgetful.
  • Dexter would snort when he laughed both as a human & doll.
  • It is commonly theorized Dexter might have had some sort of vendetta against cats, however this is unlikely, seeing as he treated them much the same as any other animal.
    • Pelo has stated Dexter kills cats because “He is a sicko”. [3]
    • There is a picture of him holding a cat seen in his missing persons report, though it is unknown if this is a pet.
  • Via dialog and further context in other episodes, we know that when he catches animals during his job as an exterminator, he takes them home to kill them.
  • It is unknown what caused the abnormality in his left eye, although it is highly possible that it's passed down by his mother, who is blind in one eye.
  • The surname "Erotoph" is a shortened version of "Erotophonophilia", roughly meaning “Ecstasy for killing”. [4]
  • The Happy Fella is a reference to the character of Chucky/Charles Lee Ray from the Child's Play/Chucky franchise.[5]
  • The QR code shows us that the doll can trap souls.
  • The mental state of the Happy Fella is visible by how disheveled his hair is. At the beginning, his hair is reminiscent to that of his cartoon counterpart: neat and cartoonish. Throughout the episode, his hair gets messier and messier until he snaps, where it looks sharp and spiky. This could be another reference to Child's Play, where the Good Guy doll becomes more human-like throughout the movie.[6]
  • The remains of the Happy Fella are stored in Skid and Lila's attic as seen in Tender Treats.
  • During a live stream, Pelo accidentally showed a sneak peek of the reference sheet for the Happy Fella.[7]
  • Despite being a serial animal abuser/murderer, it does seem he has some kind of moral compass.
  • It is implied Dexter did not initially wish to hurt Skid & Pump, writing “I CANT KILL THEM THEY ARE KIDS”. However, once deprived from his needs for long enough, he became desperate enough to target them.[2]
  • It also might be implied via a (non-canon) comic that Dexter preferred killing animals as he believed they didn't have feelings.[8]
  • It was confirmed that Dexter has ASPD (Antisocial Personality Disorder).[9][10]
  • In one of Pelo's Spooky Doodles (which are non-canon), it is implied that he can speak Spanish and Glorpian
  • In Spooky Month: Hollow Sorrows, it is said that his mother gives him hugs when it is cold.
  • At the end of Spooky Month: Hollow Sorrows, the remains of the Happy Fella doll’s eyes appear to move while watching the spider in the attic. This proves that Dexter still lives inside the doll in some way, despite being immobile.
  • was abducted by aliens AGAIN which made him into one
