Nos omne et omnis. Omnis daturus est nobis plus quam omnia.
― From the yellow pages book in Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest. Translation: "We are everything and everyone. Everyone is going to give us more than everything."

The Cult is the main antagonistic faction of the Spooky Month series, debuting in the ending of Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest.

They worship the Eyes of the Universe from within a mansion on the outskirts of town. Their end goals are currently unknown, but their activities are currently being investigated by Jack and John, which encompasses the main subplot of Spooky Month.

Biography[]

Spooky Month 3 - Unwanted Guest[]

The Cultists make their first proper appearance in the Newgrounds ending of the episode, where six of them are huddled around a hole in the mansion's floor made by The Eyes of the Universe in the previous episode. Jack and John enter the mansion, disturbing them. Mr. Clown then climbs up from the floor, triggering Jack's coulrophobia. Jack then repeatedly shoots Mr. Clown, before being dragged away by John.

Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles[]

A lone Cultist appears in this episode, following Jack and John throughout. In the Newgrounds ending, what is presumed to be the same Cultist breaks into John's house and burns it down, destroying the evidence of the Cult he had collected. This Cultist accidentally sets himself on fire, but escapes the building nonetheless.

Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats[]

The Cult is mentioned early on by John when he is telling Mayor Evermore of something going on in the town. The mayor doesn't believe that the Cult exists, even after John explains that they burned his house down.

In the Newgrounds ending of the episode, Patty shows Jack and John an amulet she found on Bob Velseb's corpse. John pulls out his wallet, revealing a picture of a Cultist who is wearing an identical amulet. With this, John deduces that the Cult let Bob escape, and that they are working together.

Spooky Month 6 - Hollow Sorrows[]

Several Cultists appear near the end of the episode when Father Gregor returns to his church. Upon his re-entry, he sees six Cultists waiting for him. After asking them what they want, he is knocked out by a Cultist holding a brick who was hiding behind him. After regaining consciousness, Gregor is in a new location surrounded by more Cultists. A giant pair of doors is opened in front of him, and a Cultist behind him brandishes a knife, threatening him to go inside. He does, where he beholds the Eyes of the Universe.

In the Newgrounds ending, six Cultists are seen inside their mansion waiting for the Fat Thief and Thin Thief to deliver some kind of progress report. The thieves recount their endeavors to the Candy Dealer, who acts as an intermediary between them and the Cultists. The duo say that they were ambushed, and ran from Lila's house after encountering a giant spider. After hearing this, the Cultists whisper amongst themselves and depart, with the Candy Dealer telling the thieves that they are "running out of luck" before also leaving.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

The vast majority of Cultists wear identical-looking full-body red robes, each of which has normally invisible sleeves that can pop out when their arms are needed. Cultists wear red hoods that extend past a human's normal head length, and end in a point that normally droops downwards. This hood appears to be a separate piece from the main robe, and has a black trim along the neckline. These hoods have eleven eyeholes of various sizes scattered around the face area, with the wearer's face unable to be seen.

Each Cultist wears a golden amulet around their neck, the chains of which end in a gold sphere. In the center of the sphere is a black-outlined diamond, colored a light greenish-cyan. The sphere also has two pieces jutting out from the bottom, each bent halfway at a ninety-degree angle.

Powers[]

The golden amulet gives heavy resistance to attacks, making the wearer able to survive gunshots.

Trivia[]

  • Thus far, the actual name of the Cult is unknown. The closest we have received is a Tweet from Sr Pelo referring to a Cultist as "The Penintent one" [sic].
    • This is likely a misspelling of "Penitent One," which could mean the Cult's actual name is the Penitent Ones.
    • Penitent, in a religious context, means "someone who repents their sins and seeks forgiveness from God." In this case, the Cult's god is the Eyes of the Universe, although what they are seeking forgiveness for is unclear.
  • Several people are or were most likely members of the Cult, despite no technical confirmation.
    • Skid's Father is very likely to have been a member, if not the founder and leader of the Cult. There is a large portrait of him in the center of the Cult's mansion, doodles of him depict him alongside other cultists (where he additionally is often shown in different attire from the others, implying that he’s of higher status than them), and several pieces of Cult regalia are located in the attic of his ex-wife, which could also mean Lila was a former member. Even if she wasn't a proper member, she was still most likely aware of his activities, having ripped off or scribbled out his face in every picture of him she owns. There is also a box in the attic saying "you are everything," with 'everything' being a word very heavily connected with the Cult, being said by Mr. Clown and written in Latin in one of the Cult's books.
    • Mayor Evermore is almost certainly a member, with the Cult's diamond symbol being carved into his office building. Additionally, the town's flag features a greenish-cyan diamond in the center, being the colors of the Eyes of the Universe's eyes and the symbol on the Cult's amulets.
    • Ignacio is another person who is almost certainly a member, being very heavily implicated in the burning of John's house during the ending of Spooky Month 4's ending. Additionally, the chain of an amulet can be seen around his neck in several scenes of Spooky Month 6.
    • The Uncle might also have been a member, since he was found by Skid and Pump hanging around in the Cult's mansion. It is unlikely he would have been allowed in there if he wasn't a member, although no amulet is known to have been found on his body.
      • Some have also speculated that Carmen and Richard, the parents of Roy, are members of the Cult because of Roy's uncle being a member. That said, there isn't anything to implicate them beyond that.
    • Some people have theorized that Father Gregor is a member of the Cult because of some doodles by Sr Pelo, but this seems unlikely given the events of Spooky Month 6. If Father Gregor truly were a Cultist, it is unlikely he would be so devoted to the Christian God, and the Cultists wouldn't need to ambush him in the church and hold him at knifepoint for him to do their bidding.
      • That said, the Cult's diamond insignia is on the door of the church.
